Buying an SUV on the pre-owned or used market is an economical and practical option. You can skip the soaring costs of brand-new vehicles and buy a comfortable ride without sacrificing quality. This is our round-up of the most low-cost, compact, mid-size, and three-row SUVs on the used market.
2019-2022 Subaru Forester:
Though this compact SUV is a lot smaller than the Outback in the same lineup, it doesn’t compromise on cargo space. It’s spacious for riders in the front and rear, comes with the entire range of EyeSight advanced safety gear, an all-wheel drive on every model, and a fuel-efficient Foresters standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. A perfect drive for narrow city streets.
2019-2022 Honda CR-V:
This entry-level SUV is affordable and perfectly suited for young families. It boasts comfortable passenger seating and a lot of cargo room beside top-notch safety equipment. Its four-cylinder engine delivers a great performance in combined driving. However, its infotainment system isn’t as updated as other SUVs in the same category.
2020-2022 Ford Explorer:
This SUV, in its 2020 redesign offers capable handling through a four-wheel drive and terrain management system. There is also comfortable three-row seating, impressive towing capacity, and a range of trim and equipment levels on offer. You can’t go wrong with the standard turbo four-cylinder base engine, but we highly recommend upgrading to the twin-turbo V-6 in the Platinum trim level.
2021-2022 Nissan Rogue:
There’s a reason the 2021 redesign on this compact SUV is selling fast. The 2021 edition has good fuel economy ( a four-cylinder engine that checks in at 30 mpg combined) and an advanced ProPilot driver assistance system on every model. It’s roomy, practical, and packed with features and comparatively low cost too.
2019-2022 Honda Pilot:
This three-row SUV boasts a spacious cabin and impressive safety features like a lane departure warning, automatic braking, and lane-keep assist with standard models. V-6 engines are installed under every hood. Its interior is a little dated and it doesn’t have the smoothest shift capability, but for a mid-tier trim, you get a good value for your money.
2021-2022 Hyundai Santa Fe:
This mid-size SUV is both affordable and comfortable with exceptional interiors, and a great infotainment system that leaves very little to desire. There’s also a base four-cylinder engine with some trims. If you can swing it, opt for the turbocharged upgrade.
